Michael Owen predicts score for Arsenal v Chelsea this weekend

Arsenal have an opportunity to send out a major statement of intent to their Premier League title rivals when they go head-to-head with Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Gunners currently sit joint top of the table and victory over the Blues could give Arsene Wenger’s side the confidence they need to go on and win their first league title since 2004.

Arsenal head into the match as favourites - and BT Sport pundit Michael Owen is confident Wenger’s men will be too strong for their London rivals this weekend.

“I think everyone has been guilty of expecting Chelsea to flick a switch and move up swiftly up the table, but the improved performances just haven’t been forthcoming,” Owen writes in his latest column for Colossus Bets. “They are playing like a mid-table side.

“Their fans can point to their excellent record in this fixture – they haven’t lost to them in the league since 2011 – and the fact the Gunners can blow hot and cold.

“But Arsenal must be strong favourites here at home, and even more so if Sanchez and Ozil are fit, and I take them to stop the rot in this fixture and win 2-1.”

Michael Owen's prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea

Arsenal have a great chance to beat Chelsea

Nineteen points currently separate Arsenal and 14th-placed Chelsea, whose form has improved since Guus Hiddink replaced the sacked Jose Mourinho last month.

The west London outfit are unbeaten since Mourinho left the club, although they are still finding it difficult to pick up wins.

Their previous two matches ended 2-2 and 3-3, and Arsenal have every reason to believe Hiddink’s men will be there for the taking on Sunday.
