Arda Turan has insisted that Barcelona teammate Neymar has the credentials to become the next Lionel Messi.

As reported by Sport, the Turkey international, who has finally started playing for the Catalans after their transfer ban came to an end at the start of this transfer window, has also suggested that Messi is 'the best player in history'.

Turan has praised Andres Iniesta but it's his Neymar prediction that will get the Camp Nou faithful excited.

Turan stated: “Messi is the best player in history, but the way Iniesta plays in incomparable. He enjoys playing and you enjoy watching him play.

“When you play with Messi, it’s another type of football. Neymar’s getting there, too, he will be the next ‘Messi’.”

Class of Neymar

Indeed, Neymar really is starting to express himself on a consistent basis. With 16 goals in 17 La Liga games, the Brazil international is flying right now and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Of course, Messi is still out on his own - the Argentine superstar has just racked up his fifth Ballon d'Or - but Neymar is starting to close the gap.

Neymar's probably never going to get to the same standard as his teammate, but there's no reason why he won't be able to establish himself as the world's best player over the coming years.

The technically gifted star will most definitely be hoping to shine tonight as Luis Enrique's side take on Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey quarter-final first-leg.

In fact, without the world-class duo of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Neymar may well have to take on the role of talisman.
