Marc-Andre ter Stegen produces fine performance for Barcelona

Without the world-class duo of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Barcelona needed another hero to against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday evening. 

Step forward, Marc-Andre ter Stegen: the Barcelona goalkeeper produced a match-winning display for the Catalans as they secured an important 2-1 win in their Copa del Rey quarter-final first leg.

The German shot-stopper showed his class time-and-time again in San Mames Stadium as he produced a number of fine saves to keep Barcelona in the driving seat ahead of the return leg at the Camp Nou.

The Barcelona man was finally beaten after Aritz Aduriz netted late on but goals from Munir el Haddadi and Neymar edged it for Luis Enrique's side.

Well, Liverpool fans may well have been concentrating on their side's FA Cup third-round replay fixture against Exeter City - the Reds beat their League Two opponents by three goals to nil - but it's unlikely that Ter Stegen's fine display would have gone unnoticed. 

The German ace, of course, still hasn't managed to establish himself as the No.1 goalkeeper for the Spanish giants, so it's not entirely surprising that Jurgen Klopp and co. have been linked with the player's signature recently. 

Liverpool have just handed Belgium international Simon Mignolet a new long-term deal but Ter Stegen would most definitely be an upgrade for the Reds.
