Mesut Ozil loves his new ‘Better than Zidane’ chant

Arsenal fans can’t get enough of Mesut Ozil at the moment and who can blame them?

The Germany international has been in majestic form this season and is the current frontrunner to win the PFA’s Premier League Player of the Year award.

Supporters at the Emirates Stadium have come up with a light-hearted chant - well, we presume it’s light-hearted, although we wouldn’t be shocked if some fans genuinely believed the playmaker was better than the great Zinedine Zidane - and Ozil himself has now heard it.

The 27-year-old thanked fans on Twitter and asked them to keep singing it during matches.

“Heard about that brilliant song!😬👌😉” Ozil tweeted. “I have to say I’m more than proud to have you as our fans. Keep singing on! 😎🎤🎧”

Decent chant from the Arsenal fans

The chant, for those who haven’t yet heard it, goes like this: “We’ve got Ozil, Mesut Ozil, I just don’t think you understand. He’s Arsene Wenger’s man, he’s better than Zidane. We’ve got Mesut Ozil.”

That’s not a bad effort from the Arsenal faithful, whose chants sometimes lack a little creativity.

But we’re not sure any Arsenal fan truly believes Ozil is a superior player to Zidane, the current Real Madrid head coach who retired back in 2006.

Ozil set to break PL assists record

Ozil looks certain to break the Premier League record for number of assists recorded in a single season - although he hasn’t set up a goal in three league matches now - as he already has 16 to his name, just four short of Thierry Henry’s tally of 20 from the 2002/03 campaign.
