Barcelona star Luis Suarez has insisted that Neymar is catching Lionel Messi as the world's best player.

As reported by, the enigmatic Barcelona forward, who has been in sensational form himself recently, has hailed Messi, labelling him as an 'inspiration'.

In fact, Suarez has insisted that it's 'incredible how quiet and shy' the Argentine enigma is. The former Liverpool man may well appreciate Messi's fine talent but he's not expecting him to stay as the greatest player on the planet for too much longer.

Indeed, Suarez believes Brazil international Neymar is proving his credentials with every passing game.

"Leo is the best in the world," Suarez told Barca TV. "On the pitch, what he inspires is admiration, but off it, it's incredible how quiet and shy he is."

"Today, Neymar is number two [in the world], he's behind Leo but he will keep learning from him, because he's a great reference.

"But with every game, Neymar is doing different things, every time more difficult to pull off.

"Anytime soon he will be number one in the world.

"It is admirable the happiness he has, and his humility."

Not quite yet

Well, while Suarez's appreciation of Neymar is admirable, the notion that the technically gifted Brazilian is close to becoming the best player on the planet is probably wrong at this stage.

Ultimately, Neymar is slowly but surely creeping up on his Barcelona teammate but he still has some way to go in pursuit of glory.

Naturally, comparisons between Neymar and Messi will continue for the foreseeable future but don't expect the former to secure the prestigious Ballon d'Or award just yet.

When will Neymar become the world's best player? Have your say below!
