Arsenal make new bid for Leicester City's Ben Chilwell

Arsenal have submitted an offer for Leicester City youngster Ben Chilwell in the hope that they can pip the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to his signature this month.

That’s the word from the Daily Mirror, who say that the Gunners have made a fresh bid as they attempt to land him before the end of the January transfer window.

Gunners bid

Arsene Wenger is apparently concerned that if a deal isn’t finalised by February then he might lose the opportunity to sign the 19-year-old, who has already been offered a new deal by his current club.

As for options at left-back, Arsenal are hardly void of players. Nacho Monreal put pen to paper on a new deal earlier this week, whilst Kieran Gibbs remains an experienced option.

However, the latter’s predicament is where Chilwell would presumably come into the picture. The Mirror say that Arsenal believe they could lose Gibbs in the summer as he looks for more first-team football - that would leave them with just Monreal as a natural option.

It makes sense then that if they can acquire Chilwell on the cheap this month they’ll have him as Monreal’s understudy for the years to come.

The starlet hasn’t featured regularly for Leicester’s first-team, but he’s considered a bright prospect for the future and so some developmental campaigns at a big club could harness his true potential.
