We would all love to know exactly what Sir Alex Ferguson really thinks of the situation Louis van Gaal finds himself in at Manchester United.

With the Red Devils enduring a torrid campaign - they currently sit in fifth place in the Premier League table after suffering a 1-0 home defeat against Southampton - the subject of Van Gaal's future has long been debated.

Understandably, the United faithful are growing frustrated with the football - or lack of football - currently on display at Old Trafford.

Former manager Ferguson may well be keeping his cards close to his chest but rumours began circulating that the legendary figure stated 'he's gone' during Saturday's clash.

Of course, if Ferguson really did say he's gone, then the notion would have been that he was referring to Van Gaal.

However, the Mirror have since spoken to one of the UK's top lip readers about the clip at the Theatre of Dreams.

The exact question asked by Ferguson's friend is unclear in the video because his mouth is obscured, but according to Rees he finishes by asking 'do you think', to which the legendary Manchester United manager responds: 'let's hope so'

Ultimately, then, the words from Ferguson don't exactly give us a great deal of clarification on the situation but Rees has also suggested that the Scotsman appeared to be very angry.
