Alex Teixeira ready to join Liverpool

Football News

Brazilian midfielder Alex Teixeira has told Shakhtar Donetsk that he wants to complete a move to Liverpool.

This has been reported by Sky Sports, who claim that the dynamic ace is hoping to sign for the Merseyside outfit in this transfer window.

Teixeira, 26, has been in sensational form this season - he has scored 22 goals in just 16 matches in the Ukrainian Premier League - so it's not entirely surprising that he's attracted interest from Jurgen Klopp and co. at Anfield.

In fact, the same report also suggests that Premier League champions Chelsea are interested in the player's signature but it appears that Liverpool are in the driving seat at this stage.

Liverpool have already made a £25 million bid for the midfielder, who is close friends with the duo of Phillipe Coutinho and Lucas Leiva.

Waiting game

The same report from Sky Sports claims that the player's representatives are currently awaiting a response from Shakhtar as the story continues to develop.

Ultimately, then, it looks set to be an interesting couple of weeks for the Reds as they go in search of improving their squad after an indifferent opening period under the guidance of German coach Klopp.

Liverpool currently sit in seventh place in England's elite division, so the arrival of Teixeira would only improve their chances of securing a place in this season's top four.
