Mesut Ozil trolled by Chelsea fans after Arsenal lose

Mesut Ozil has enjoyed a fantastic season so far but the Arsenal playmaker was ineffective against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

It didn’t help that the Gunners were reduced to 10 men early in the match after Per Mertesacker was given his marching orders for a foul on Diego Costa. Olivier Giroud, who has scored six Premier League goals this season thanks to assists from Ozil, was subsequently withdrawn for defender Gabriel.

But Chelsea fans made the most of the opportunity to troll Ozil - and you can see some of the best tweets by scrolling down this page.

Arsenal, as hosts and Premier League high-flyers, went into the match as favourites but faced an uphill battle after Mertesacker was sent off in the 18th minute.

Their task of winning the match was made significantly harder five minutes later when Diego Costa put the visitors ahead with a close-range finish. It would prove to be the game’s only goal.

Ozil trolled by Chelsea fans on Twitter

Ozil was by no means the worst performer on the pitch, but that didn’t stop the Chelsea fans from aggravating the Arsenal faithful with their tweets during and after the match.

Arsenal can still win the title

While the result is undoubtedly a blow for the Gunners, there’s no doubt they could still end their long wait for the Premier League trophy this season.

Arsene Wenger’s men are three points off league leaders Leicester City, and level on points with Manchester City.

Bouncing back from Sunday’s result, however, will be crucial.

Arsenal take on Burnley on the FA Cup on Saturday before going head-to-head with Southampton in the league three days later.
