James Rodriguez annoyed by jibes about his weight

It’s been a difficult January for Real Madrid star James Rodriguez.

The Colombia international hit the headlines on New Year’s Day after he was involved in a high-speed police chase while on his way to training; he’s been told to buck up his ideas by Zinedine Zidane and, to add insult to injury, people have been calling him fat.

Speaking after Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Real Betis on Sunday night, James admitted the jibes about his weight are irritating him but insisted he is conducting himself with the utmost professionalism despite rumours claiming otherwise.

"The talk really p***** me off,” the South American was quoted as saying by Marca. “My people know how I act and that I always seek to take good care of myself. I'm a professional.

“What's been said about me going out a lot at night is a lie. It really p***** me off that people doubt me and say I'm looking fat.“

The Sun: Man Utd on alert

The Sun reckon James’s quotes have further alerted Manchester United who, according to the same British newspaper, are lining up a record-breaking bid for the Colombian.

But, by the sounds of it, Louis van Gaal is more likely to be sacked rather than being granted permission to make another signing as manager of the Red Devils. With a week to go before the transfer window closes, it’s hard to envisage United signing any player this month, let alone one of the world’s best.

Real Madrid will surely keep James

Zidane may have left James out of his first two starting line-ups but the French coach selected the former AS Monaco star in his eleven for the draw against Betis at the weekend.

And with the Spanish giants due to serve a two-window transfer ban, allowing James to leave the Bernabeu really doesn’t make any awful lot of sense.
