The Authority have been a part of the WWE since 2013, with only a brief hiatus during the latter part of 2014.
Since its creation, there has been several different group members, but the core of the group - Triple H and Stephanie McMahon - has remained the same. They have clashed with the likes of Daniel Bryan, John Cena, and most recently Roman Reigns over the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Today, they have full control of the title, as The Game won it at the Royal Rumble, but Stephanie has already booked his first opponent as a Triple Threat Number One Contender match will take place at Fastlane between Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Brock Lesnar to determine who will face her husband for the championship at WrestleMania.

Which leads me to ask, why has Lesnar been included in this match?
It's clear to see why Reigns and Ambrose have been included. The Big Dog had just lost the championship at the Royal Rumble and this is his opportunity to achieve a rematch and reclaim the title. The Lunatic Fringe has been inserted because he was one of the last competitors in the Royal Rumble and to perhaps cause some tension between the former Shield brothers.
While it is baffling to see why they would give Reigns another chance if they hate him so much, it's more baffling they have included a star who they 'suspended' last year for what he did to The Authority, who has had their rematch clause already, so they can't use that excuse, and he hasn't wrestled much since Hell in a Cell either.
Why would The Authority create a situation where, if Lesnar wins at Fastlane, the only person between him and the title is Triple H? The title angle now seems so focused on Reigns, WWE creative is failing to see the bigger picture.
The reason why Stephanie included The Beast will likely be revealed before Fastlane, hopefully. A more logical approach could be to provide another chance for Bray Wyatt to deny Lesnar an opportunity to win the title, similar to what he did at the Royal Rumble.
You would have thought Lesnar's dirty elimination by the hands of The Wyatt Family at the Royal Rumble would have been enough for him to want to act out his revenge as it cost him a chance to win the title already. Unless Brock is suddenly the forgiving type.
We'll just have to wait and see how the WWE makes sense of this in the next couple of weeks before Fastlane.
