Liverpool’s chances of signing Brazilian attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira have suffered a serious blow after Shakhtar Donetsk rejected their offer - per Sky Sports -  just five days before the winter transfer window closes.

However, we now know for certain that the 26-year-old is determined to force a move to Anfield before Monday’s deadline.

Anfield HQ have managed to secure an exclusive interview with the in-demand South American, who is also on the radar of Chelsea, and you can watch it by scrolling down this page.

Asked if he knew what was going on with the negotiations, Teixeira responded by saying: “The team received one official offer from Liverpool. It was rejected. I don’t know why.

“It was a great offer. It is frustrating. But the manager and club president decided against it. So I’m just waiting, trying to be patient.”

The reporter, Stefano Fusaro, then asked the player if he wanted to play for Liverpool.

“Yes,” he replied. “It is a huge club. So many great players have passed through there. It would be an honour to defend the Liverpool shirt.”

Liverpool's offer is short of Shakhtar's asking price

Teixeira revealed that Liverpool had submitted an offer worth €32 million for his services, which is someway short of Shakhtar’s €46 million valuation, but that his agent is still doing everything he can to get him to Anfield.

The player also revealed that he wants to sign for Liverpool in order to enhance his prospects of making the Brazil squad for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

Despite his eye-catching performances in Ukraine, Teixeira is yet to be capped by his country.
