James Rodriguez and Ever Banega to Manchester United: Balague gives update

Football News

It has been a painful period for Manchester United fans who have had to watch their side struggle to gain any momentum or consistency under Louis van Gaal recently.

After securing a remarkable 1-0 win at Anfield against fierce rivals Liverpool, the Red Devils then suffered a defeat at the hands of Southampton this past weekend. It has been the story of their season.

Unsurprisingly, with the January transfer window approaching its end, Van Gaal's side have been linked with a whole host of players as they go in search of getting their campaign back on track.

Sky Sports pundit Guillem Balague, then, has been asked about the possibility of Manchester United securing the services of James Rodriguez and Ever Banega.

Real Madrid star Rodriguez has endured a difficult time at the Bernabeu recently - he has been in and out of the team - while Banega is recognised as one of the best midfielders in Spain's elite division.

But it appears that, according to Balague, neither are heading to the Theatre of Dreams anytime soon.

When asked about the possibility of the duo signing for the Red Devils, the Spanish football expert stated: "There is no chance of James going in January and Sevilla are saying they know nothing about Manchester United when it comes to Ever Banega."

It's probably expected, yet disappointing news for the Manchester United faithful; the club are clearly in need of reinforcements, but it's starting to look unlikely that they will sign anyone before the close of the transfer window.

There's still time, of course, but Van Gaal and the Manchester United hierarchy must act imminently.
