Greg Popovich named head coach of Western Conference All-Stars

Greg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs has been named as the head coach of the West All-Stars ahead of the big game next month. The Spurs currently sit second in the West behind the Golden State Warriors, but the fact that Warriors coach Steve Kerr lead the All-Stars last year makes him ineligible for this year’s edition in Toronto. The event will be the fourth time Popovich has led the west as coach - he’ll be in charge of the likes of Steph Curry and Kobe Bryant. Meanwhile, Shaquille O’Neal is to be honoured by the Lakers by getting his own statue at the Staples Center. The statue will be unveiled on a yet-unknown date some point in the 2016/17 season - with the franchise’s co-owner, Jeanie Buss, describing him as a giant in size and accomplishments.
