Cristiano Ronaldo drives recklessly after training to overtake Jese

It turns out Cristiano Ronaldo is just as ultra-competitive behind the wheel as he is on the football pitch.

While driving out of Valdebebas - Real Madrid’s training ground - earlier this week, Ronaldo spotted Jese in the car ahead of him.

Rather than getting behind his Real Madrid teammate to form an orderly queue, Ronaldo swerved around a speed bump then edged his way ahead of Jese’s car. It was a risky and somewhat unnecessary manoeuvre - we don’t recommend attempting this on your driving test - and you can see the footage by scrolling down to the video on this page.

There is another explanation, rather than pure competitiveness, why Ronaldo may have been desperate to get himself ahead of Jese.

At the bottom of the road were a group of autograph hunters - hopeful Real Madrid fans congregate there after every training session - and Ronaldo will have been acutely aware that getting stuck behind Jese would have attracted a big crowd around his car.

By nipping ahead of Jese, Ronaldo had the opportunity to make a quicker exit and get back to Cristiano Jr. and the rest of his family at home.

Big weekend coming up for Real Madrid

It could be a big weekend for Ronaldo and the rest of his Real Madrid teammates.

Barcelona and Atletico go head-to-head on Saturday afternoon so Los Blancos will close the gap on at least one of the top two - or both, if they draw - by beating Espanyol at the Bernabeu on Sunday night.

Zinedine Zidane’s men will be hungry to secure all three points following their frustrating 1-1 draw at Real Betis last weekend.
