Barcelona v Atletico Madrid - first against second in La Liga - promised fireworks and it did not disappoint.

Atletico came flying out the traps and took the lead in the 10th minute through Koke.

But two goals from Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez put Barcelona 2-1 ahead before half-time - and that was the end of the scoring. It wasn’t the end of the drama, though, as Atletico had a man sent off either side of half-time, reducing them to nine men. (Scroll down this page to watch the best moments from the match).

Filipe Luis’s red card for a foul of Messi in the 44th minute ultimately proved catastrophic for Atletico.

But Diego Simeone’s side battled until the end - even after they were reduced to nine men when Diego Godin was dismissed in the 85th minute - and probably deserved a point from the match.

Although it could prove a costly defeat in the long run - Barcelona have a game in hand over Atletico - Simeone’s men will take heart from the performance and remain confident that they can still win La Liga.
