Manchester United tried to make late move for Pep Guardiola

Published Add your comment

There were chimes of celebration in Manchester yesterday as it was announced that Pep Guardiola would be managing there from this summer onwards. Not in the red half, no; Guardiola is taking over at Man City. That’s not to say things couldn’t have been very different however, with new reports stating that City believe Manchester United failed in a last-ditch effort to convince Guardiola to re-think his decision. It’s said in the Mirror that the Red Devils wanted the Spaniard, which we can wholly believe, but that he was already committed to the Etihad - he’ll leave his post at Bayern at the end of the season. Now, moving on, it’s also said United failed in an attempt to take Mathieu Debuchy on loan yesterday, with Arsene Wenger offering a firm rebuff. The French right-back joined Bordeaux until the summer, but only after Arsenal had rejected United’s approach. Can’t say we’re too surprised.
