Paul Merson makes Premier League title prediction involving Leicester City

Football News

If Leicester City win their next three Premier League fixtures - against Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal - they will be crowned champions of England at the end of the season.

This is according to Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, who believes the Foxes will have the title effectively sewn up with 12 matches left to play. That’s 36 points that will still be up for grabs.

Winning the next three matches would, of course, be a massive statement of intent from Claudio Ranieri’s side - but it’s surely too premature to confidently state that they’ll go on to win the Premier League title?

“The next three games define them,” Merson wrote in his latest predictions column. “If they win all three they will be Premier League champions.

“If they lose all three they will be fighting to stay in the top-four.”

Leicester still third favourites to win title

Leicester currently occupy pole position in the Premier League table, having picked up 13 wins from their opening 23 matches.

They sit three points above Manchester City and Arsenal but are still only the joint-third favourites to win the title, alongside Tottenham, at 8-1 with several leading bookmakers.

It will be a miracle if Leicester win the title

While their odds will shorten if they win their next three matches, it’s still unlikely that they’ll be installed as favourites.

Manchester City and Arsenal have more strength in depth and that should ultimately help them in the final weeks of the campaign, as we approach the end of a gruelling season.

It would still be a miracle if Leicester won the Premier League - and every neutral will be praying it happens - but Merson’s comment is probably a little over the top.
