Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has scored a genuine contender for Premier League Goal of the Season against Liverpool tonight.

The England international allowed a long-range pass from Riyad Mahrez to bounce once before lashing the ball on the half-volley over the head of Simon Mignolet.

Vardy had no right to score from that angle - and it’s not as if Mignolet made it easy for him.

The Liverpool goalkeeper saw the ball sit up nicely for Vardy, but never would have envisaged him lashing the ball over his head from that far out.

Vardy then doubled his tally with another goal in the second half to make it 2-0 to Leicester.

Vardy, who is poised to sign a new three-and-a-half year deal with the Foxes, has now scored 18 Premier League goals this season and sits three ahead of Everton’s Romelu Lukaku in the race for the Golden Boot.
