Leicester City fan rejects cash-out offer on potential £25,000 bet

The Leicester City fan who stands to pocket a cool £25,000 if the Foxes win the Premier League title this season had been offered a massive cash-out incentive following his side’s 3-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday.

Willian Hill, having installed Leicester as title favourites following their magnificent victory at the Etihad Stadium, offered carpenter Leigh Herbert a generous £3,200 to cash-out early.

But Leigh wasn’t tempted - he is convinced that Leicester, who were 5000/1 to win the title at the start of the season, will become champions of England in May.

“I am going to hang in there," the 39-year-old was quoted as saying by the Independent. "I believe in fairy tales and £25,000 will be a life changing win.”

Brave move, Leigh. Brave move.

Smart move - or silly?

But was it a smart move?

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson predicted last week that Leicester will become Premier League champions if they beat Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal in their next three matches.

Claudio Ranieri’s men have now won the first two of those matches and face the Gunners this weekend. They currently sit five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

But even if they manage to beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, there will still be 36 points up for grabs until the final day of the season.

Leigh, we admire your bravery - but we think you might eventually regret your decision not to cash out.
