It took him 10, 20, maybe even 30 tries, but Gael Clichy finally got it right.

The Manchester City defender, who has only made four Premier League starts this season, scored from roughly 50 yards in a training session.

Clichy posted the video on Instagram along with the caption: “after 10-20 maybe 30 tries I finally scored this one,” before asking his 37,000 followers whether or not it could be classed as a screamer.

Yes, Clichy. It can.

The Frenchman missed the first four months of the season due to a knee injury but has seen regular action since making his return at the end of November.

His training ground strike is superb, but Clichy shooting from 50 yards likely frustrated Manuel Pellegrini, who would rather his players use training as a way to diagnose and repair the problems that arose in Saturday’s humbling loss at home to surprise leaders Leicester.

Hunt for the title

The loss means the Citizens fall six points behind Claudio Ranieri’s team in their hunt for a third league title in five years.

The task doesn’t get any easier for City. They face second-placed Tottenham this weekend before taking on Chelsea in the FA Cup.

Clichy, 30, was on the bench for the defeat to Leicester and it remains to be seen whether he will be a part of new manager Pep Guardiola’s plans.

According to The Guardian, Guardiola hopes to bring left-back David Alaba with him when he leaves Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Although goals like his training ground strike will certainly help Clichy’s case.
