Gerard Pique gets into funny Twitter spat over Fernando Torres

Gerard Pique seems like a funny guy, and his Twitter spat with a Spanish radio show confirms the defender has good banter.

It involves Fernando Torres and a burger. Of course.

It started when Cadena COPE tweeted they were talking to a waiter called Javi, who served Torres a burger that apparently sparked a turnaround in the striker’s form.

(Torres scored against Eibar on Saturday, his first goal in 19 goals. The burger hardly turned the Spaniard into Pele.)

Pique responded in sarcastic fashion, asking the radio show to find out who does Torres’ tattoos, hair and who took him to the Vicente Calderon Stadium, Atletico Madrid’s home.

Cadena COPE answered Pique’s request, to which the 29-year-old turned the talk to a story about his team-mate, Neymar.

Last month Spanish journalist Manolo Lama, who works for the station, reported that Neymar was in Madrid eating dinner, sparking rumours of a transfer.

Pique asked Cadena Cope for the name of the restaurant Neymar dined in.

Banter king

This is where the story gets even funnier, and Pique confirms his status as the king of banter.

The station said Neymar ate dinner in ‘Tatel’ before asking the former Manchester United player if he was with the Brazilian that night.

“Sorry, but I’m sure I was not there,” Pique replied. “The last time I was in Madrid was on November 21.. Good night!”

Barcelona embarrassed Real Madrid

Of course, Pique was referencing Barcelona’s 4-0 mauling of Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. Luis Enrique’s team were in a different class to their bitter rivals and the loss contributed to Rafael Benitez’s sacking at Los Blancos.

Madrid, now managed by Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane, have the chance to exact revenge on April 3.
