Charlotte Hornets Michael Kidd-Gilchrist tears labrum in shoulder again

Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has torn the labrum in his right shoulder for a second time, possibly ending his season.

The former number two overall pick in the draft out of Kentucky sustained the injury in the third quarter of Charlotte's 117-95 win against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday earlier this week.

The team says Kidd-Gilchrist will be re-evaluated after the All-Star break and gave no prognosis for his return.

However, when Kidd-Gilchrist first tore his labrum in his shoulder in early October in a preseason game, he needed shoulder surgery and missed nearly than four months of action.

He returned last month and was averaging 12.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 29.3 minutes per game in seven contests since returning to action.

The team originally thought Kidd-Gilchrist's injury was a dislocated shoulder, but further evaluation revealed he has once again torn his labrum in his right shoulder.

The Hornets will be hoping this injury doesn't sideline the 22-year-old for the rest of the season. He's the team's best defender, so he will be needed to contribute towards the team's playoff run. They currently sit in eighth position in the Eastern Conference.

Prior to getting hurt, Kidd-Gilchrist was averaging 13.5 points and seven rebounds and shooting 53 percent from the field.
