Bayern Munich's Douglas Costa picks outstanding five-a-side dream team

Football News

Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa has caught the eye on numerous occasions throughout his debut Bundesliga season, regularly pulling off a myriad of tricks more suited to five-a-side football than the traditional 11-man game.

The silky Brazilian is one of the most exciting players in world football and, speaking to, has picked a five-a-side dream team that could even match the man himself for entertainment value.

Costa believes he would "cause a lot of problems" playing alongside one particular star with whom he shares a similar style.

Manuel Neuer

Unsurprisingly, the revered custodian between the sticks for Bayern and the Germany national team is the attacker’s go-to choice in goal.

Costa has seen Neuer concede just ten goals in the Bundesliga since arriving at the Allianz Arena, not to mention the catalogue of super-human saves he’s capable of producing.

Every team - five-a-side or otherwise - needs a passing wizard to keep things ticking in the middle of the pitch.

In accordance with the popular opinion of most football fans, former Barcelona playmaker Xavi gets the nod in Costa’s eyes.

What he lacks in the speed and tricks department compared to other players in this side is irrelevant in light of his unparalleled vision and passing range.

Douglas Costa

It’s uncommon for players to deprive themselves of a hypothetical opportunity to line up in their own dream teams.

Costa is no exception - an understandable decision considering the standard of quality he’s selected and what he would bring to the already stunning line-up.

As he’s proved on more than one occasion, the former Shakhtar ace would feel equally at home on the five-a-side pitch as the Allianz Arena.

There would be few things more terrifying for a pair of full-backs than attempting - and likely failing - to mark a combination of Neymar and Costa on both wings.

It’s difficult to seperate the two in terms of who has the most comprehensive array of skills, but some things in football are better left to simply enjoy rather than dissect.

Robert Lewandowski

Rounding off Costa’s picks is the man who would be primarily responsible for finding the back of the net.

Aside from the fact Lewandowski is one of the deadliest strikers on the planet at present, the quality of service offered by the other three outfielders in this team would make scoring a breeze.
