Arsenal held to stalemate by Hull City days before their clash with Barcelona

When the draw for the FA Cup fifth round was made, Arsenal would have been hoping for an easy home tie.

They already knew they would be facing Barcelona on the following Tuesday in the Champions League last-16, so an opportunity to rest a few players and a comfortable victory to boost their confidence would be ideal for the Gunners.

At home to Hull in the early Saturday kick-off was seen as the perfect tie and the task was made even easier when Hull announced they would be making ten changes for the match.

A nice, easy win to give the north London side some confidence ahead of their crunch match with the Catalan club then.

It didn’t quite work out like that.

Arsenal huffed and puffed but couldn’t find their way past Eldin Jakupovic - a goalkeeper that has played just nine times in the league for the Tigers since joining in March 2012.

Danny Welbeck was handed his first start for ten months but chance after chance went begging and, despite the introduction of Alexis Sanchez, Oliver Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the second-half, they couldn't find the back of the net.

But it could have been even worse for the home side with Hull breaking forward late on and squandering a few glorious opportunities.

As you’d expect, Arsenal fans had a Twitter meltdown when they realised that they faced the best football team in the world in just a couple of days after they failed to score against a second-string Championship side.

As the Arsenal fans trudged home from the Emirates, Tuesday’s opponents were kicking off against Las Palmas in La Liga as they look to go nine points clear.

While the Arsenal fans are running scared of their match against Barca on Tuesday, fans of other cubs were teasing the Gunners after their lacklustre draw.

Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar are coming to town Arsenal and it’s time to be very afraid.
