Barcelona have a plan to get Luis Suarez on Ballon d'Or podium

When Cristiano Ronaldo told reporters that he knew the exact reason why Leo Messi passed a penalty to Luis Suarez during the game against Celta Vigo, it only led to further intrigue into the situation.

What was the Real Madrid star talking about? Was he referring to Lionel Messi's underwhelming record from the spot or was he talking about a much more sinister plan involving himself.

According to Mundo Deportivo, what Ronaldo was actually talking about was an ongoing master plan to get the Uruguayan striker on the Ballon d'Or podium next January. The intention, obviously, is to make sure that all three places are taken up by Barcelona players at Ronaldo's expense.

Both Neymar and Leo Messi seem virtual guarantees to be on the podium next year. Messi, like Ronaldo, has been in the final three every year since the award's inception in 2010.

Taking into account the results prior to its merge with the FIFA Player of the Year, Ronaldo has been on the podium for nine consecutive years.

Master plan

However, if Barcelona have their way, that extraordinary run will come to an end in 2016. All they have to do is help Suarez overtake the Portuguese and the job will surely be done.

That is why he was passed the penalty against Celta Vigo and it is also why he was given the penalty against Sporting Gijon last week, which, ironically, he missed.

Messi and Neymar are trying to make sure Suarez wins the Pichichi this season as well as the European Golden Shoe.

Tough task

With 25 La Liga goals, he is currently leading the charts in both and Barcelona team-mates are doing their very best to make sure he stays there.

Unfortunately, Suarez may have a bigger hill to climb than his team-mates as, by all accounts, he has few friends in FIFA's swanky Zurich headquarters.

Of course, few have forgiven him for his controversial bite on Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup, which stained their beloved competition.
