Were WWE right to allow Charlotte to retain the Divas Championship at Fastlane?

The Bella Twins have dominated the WWE Divas Division for almost eight years, but following Daniel Bryan's retirement earlier this month and the fact that her sister Nikki may never return to the ring, Brie Bella made the decision that she will also hang up her wrestling boots for good, in the summer.

This came as a shock given the success that "The Bella Brand" has had and how big Total Divas has managed to become with Brie and her sister headlining the show.

Heading into what could have been her final match for the Divas Championship, many thought that Brie was holding onto her sisters coat tails and hoping that the sympathy of the crowd would be enough to see her to victory, when in actuality, she was probably more deserving of the win.

The pop that Brie received when she walked out was one of the biggest of the night and it seemed to continue throughout the match with the fans completely behind her, hoping that Charlotte's 153-day reign would come to an abrupt end.

Once again Ric Flair had to involve himself in the match but Brie looked like she had outsmarted him until she also fell victim to The Figure 8, much like her sister at Night of Champions last year.

The hope was that WWE was going to give Brie the push she deserved a long time ago, given that it is widely considered that she is a better wrestler than her sister, who was allowed a 301-day run as Divas Champion, the longest in the history of the belt.

This leaves Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks to step up and challenge for that title at WrestleMania after their impressive victory at FastLane.

As much as it is emotionally unsatisfying that Brie failed to be given the fairy tale ending to what has been a roller coaster of a career, in the long run, WWE made the right decision for the company and for the Women's Division going forward.

Whilst it looks like WWE has set this up to be a triple threat match at WrestleMania, they could easily add Brie to the mix if they wanted to, if they felt she was worthy of another championship opportunity.

The match was an impressive encounter, given that many of the WWE Universe didn't rate the option of given Brie another shot at the title. Both Divas gave it their all and Brie proved why she has been in the business so long, she used all of the emotional she felt and she turned it into a positive, who knows, maybe she does have another Divas Championship reign left in her.
