Only four men in Europe’s top five leagues have made it to double figures in terms of both goals and assists. But despite the presence of the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Luis Suarez among those men, none of them have achieved the feat quicker than Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne.

With those numbers has bought a host of admirers to Insigne, and his style of play could make him perfect for a move to the Premier League.

For years, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Edinson Cavani were Napoli’s partners in crime, a combination that led them to Champions League football. When both were sold it was seen as a backwards step by the Italian side, as the pair were among the top players in Europe at the time.

These sales have turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Napoli, with the emergence of Insigne in the attacking midfield role. Marek Hamsik was once seen as the top dog in the role for Gli Azzurri, but the Italian has profited from the Slovakian’s loss of form.

The 24-year-old has also formed an excellent partnership with Gonzalo Higuain, who is top of the Serie A scoring charts with 24 goals this season. No one else in the division has reached ten assists, with four of Insigne’s ten assists setting up Higuain to score.

It is the way Insigne has produced his goals and assists that has really caught the eye, however. His pace and skill in running with the ball led to his former team mate, Macedonia captain Goran Pandev giving him the nickname of “the Italian Diego Maradona”, another man who appeared for Napoli.

Insigne is often deployed on the left wing despite being right footed allowing him to cut inside and get his shot away, something which could make him perfectly suited for the Premier League. His pace and intricate passing make him very similar to someone like Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City, a man who has had huge success since his move to England.

If a move to the Premier League does come about, Insigne could be a big player for a club in England. With the obvious talent that he possesses, he can become one of the top players in Europe, like others from Napoli have in the past.
