It didn’t take long for Mesut Ozil to produce a moment of magic for Arsenal against Manchester United at Old Trafford this afternoon.

Within the first 10 minutes, Ozil carved open the host’s defence with an exquisite left-footed pass.

The German playmaker’s pass was weighted to perfection - over Michael Carrick, United’s makeshift centre-back, but in front of David de Gea - however, Nacho Monreal failed to apply the finish. (Scroll down this page to watch the video).

It should have been Ozil’s 18th Premier League assist of the season, although credit must go to De Gea for making himself big and producing the all-important block.

Arsenal fans were frustrated that Monreal had failed to convert such a great opportunity, but they still expressed their appreciation for Ozil’s pass on Twitter.

Arsenal 2-1 down at half-time

Two goals in three minutes from Marcus Rashford stunned the Gunners and left them with an uphill struggle ahead of the second half - although Danny Welbeck netted a goal back towards the end of the first half.

Arsenal must turn it around in second half

After Leicester City’s last-gasp 1-0 victory over Norwich City on Saturday, this felt like a must-win game for Arsenal, who were strong favourites prior to kick-off.

But defeat at Old Trafford today would mean they stay third in the Premier League table, five points behind the Foxes.
