Nobody wants to be subbed off in the first half of a cup final. Unfortunately for Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho, that’s exactly what happened.

The defender was substituted after fears the France international had suffered a concussion during a clash of heads with teammate Emre Can.

And it’s fair to say Sakho wasn’t happy at Jurgen Klopp’s decision. After a lengthy discussion between player and manager, Klopp’s influence told and Kolo Toure was brought on. Cue a furious reaction from the defender, which you can check out by scrolling down this page.

The 26-year-old threw his water bottle and hid his face under a training top in an entirely understandable tantrum.

He continued for a few minutes after the incident but was clearly not in a fit state to complete the remainder of the game.

It’s the kind of passion that will endear Sakho to Liverpool fans. He can’t always be relied upon to produce the goods on the pitch but he was desperate to win his first trophy for the Reds.

He will still get a winners medal should Liverpool beat Manchester City. The game is currently 0-0 at half-time and neither goalkeeper is yet to be seriously tested.

This is one of three opportunities Manuel Pellegrini has of ending his City tenure with a trophy. The Chilean, who will be replaced by Pep Guardiola in the summer, has put in team in contention to win the Premier League, Capital One Cup and Champions League.

He can get one-third of the job done with a win today.
