WWE: Who should be the face of SmackDown if we see a brand split?

The shocking return of Shane McMahon this past week on Monday Night Raw has had the WWE Universe buzzing and creating booking ideas they’d like to see take place.

Some fans want to see Shane-O Mac bring in some help heading into his huge WrestleMania clash against The Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell. Other want to see him win and take control, but at the same time, nobody wants to see The Undertaker lose.

His return has also led to plenty of speculation surrounding other big ideas, one of those being a potential brand split where we would see Raw and SmackDown stars exclusive to their respective brand.

At this stage, it does seem premature as we don’t even know if Shane will be sticking around. However, you can’t argue with the fact that many fans would love to see the WWE revert to a brand split and see stars receive fair opportunities.

It was always something special when a star from the other brand made a shocking one-off appearance, and those days are sorely missed. So, if the WWE do eventually go back to a brand split, here are the stars I believe could handle being the face of the brand.

Despite not looking like the typical face of a brand or a company, Kevin Owens has all the tools in his locker to be the top heel of any wrestling promotion in the world.

That, along with the fact that he is incredible in the ring for a man of his size, means he would be a solid contender to be the face of SmackDown.

We don’t know when, or if, Owens will become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but it could be sooner rather than later as Triple H is very high on him.

There was so much hype when he arrived and rightfully so, he can be a star for the company and if not on Raw then SmackDown would be the perfect destination for him to dominate on Thursday nights.

What else can be said about AJ Styles? He’s one of the finest wrestlers on the planet with a loyal fan base, and although he isn’t the best of talkers on the mic, he has what it takes to carry a brand.

We saw that with TNA as he was the one carrying that company during its best days and with so much more help in the WWE, he could do that on SmackDown.

Again, it’s more difficult with one World Championship, but if a brand split could bring back the World Heavyweight Championship, then AJ Styles will be one of the first names you think of when it comes to holding that title.

We were so close to seeing Dean Ambrose headline WrestleMania until he was hit with a Spear by Reigns and you can tell by the reaction from the fans that they believe he deserves his shot at the primetime event more than anyone.

Ambrose will struggle to make it to the top on Raw, not because of talent – we know he has plenty of that – but bad booking won’t allow him to make it because there’s too much invested into Reigns.

If the brand split does come about then, Ambrose would be another perfect candidate to be at the top because he deserves that chance more than others.

Bray Wyatt is an interesting one; the WWE creative team have pretty much killed any momentum The Wyatt Family had, and the excitement they brought with them has now ended. It will take a miracle for Wyatt to enter the main event picture again, let alone become the top guy on Raw.

If SmackDown was an option, it would be good for the WWE to take him there and let him have a little more freedom and book him better.

He too has enough talent to succeed, and we lack great heels like him, he’s a valuable asset the WWE cannot give up on and in the long-run a brand split could benefit any of these stars.
