Arsenal fans tweet their anger at Francis Coquelin after costly red card

Arsenal were 1-0 up and looking fairly comfortable in the most important north London derby ever.

A win would put them level on points with their arch-rivals and three points behind league leaders Leicester.

Well, that was until Francis Coquelin got himself stupidly sent-off in the 55th minute.

The French defensive midfielder dived in on Harry Kane and got nowhere the ball, deservedly receiving his marching orders.

And it didn’t take long for the home side to take advantage of Coquelin’s absence.

Harry Kane had an effort that David Ospina somehow prevented from crossing the line but five minutes after Coquelin left the pitch, Spurs equalised.

Toby Alderweireld smashed the ball home after it fell to him from a corner and Kane gave Spurs the lead just two minutes later with an absolute screamer.

Unsurprisingly, Gooners on Twitter were absolutely fuming with their midfielder after it appeared he had lost them the match.

But despite having a man less, Arsene Wenger’s side fought back and Alexis Sanchez equalised with 15 minutes remaining to earn a respectable draw.

Gooners will probably be satisfied with a point in the end but if Coquelin hadn’t committed such a silly foul, Arsenal could have been leaving White Hart Lane with all three.

The draw means Wenger’s side still trail their north London rivals by three points.

One team that will be loving this result is league leaders, Leicester.

They are now two points ahead of Spurs and five points clear of Arsenal but with a match in hand. They face a tough trip to Watford later this evening knowing a win would be huge for their title chances.

Would Arsenal have won the match if Coquelin hadn't have been sent off?
