Nate Diaz shocked the world during UFC 196, making the mercurial Conor McGregor tap out in the middle of the octagon on Saturday night.
The ballsy American was battered in the first round of the fight, with several fierce left hooks from McGregor leaving Diaz severely cut and bruised around his right eye. Diaz has a stronger chin and jaw than anyone McGregor ever faced at 145lbs, and when he landed a few big shots of his own in the second round the Irishman was stunned. That led to a lazy McGregor takedown that was quickly reversed into a rear-naked choke for the win.
McGregor seemed truly heartbroken, humbled and dismayed after the fight speaking in hushed tones during interviews. On Sunday, however, McGregor took to Facebook and vowed to bounce back from this setback.
In a long post on his official verified page, McGregor says that he doesn't regret moving up to 170 lbs at all and that he will never apologise for his actions.
"I stormed in and put it all on the line. I took a shot and missed," McGregor said. "I will never apologize for taking a shot. Shit happens."
"I'll take this loss like a man. I will not shy away from it. I will not change who I am. If another champion goes up 2 weights let me know."
The Irishman then had some words for his many detractors and haters, who think he is too cocky and needs to show some respect. How did he address them? Well, by being cocky and brash of course.
"If your tired of me talking money, take a nap. I'll still be here when you wake up with the highest PPV and the gate. Still talking multi 7's."
McGregor went on to say thank you to his fans for the loyal and passionate support, vowing to bounce back, before taking shots at Rafael dos Anjos and Jose Aldo - who pulled out and refused a match, respectively.
"Thank you to the true support and fuck the hate that came out of the woodwork. I love it all. It's still steak for breakfast. I've been here many times in my life in some form or another. I'll eat it all and come back stronger."
"Aldo you are a pussy. Dos Anjos you are a pussy. When the history books are written, I showed up. You showed up on Twitter."
"To the fans! Never ever shy away from challenges. Never run from adversity. Face yourself head on."
The final action of the statement were some words for Diaz, with McGregor seemingly suggesting that a rematch could be on the cards in the future.
"Nate, I will see you again."
