When it was originally confirmed that Pep Guardiola would be joining Manchester City at the end of the season, local media immediately intimated that it would have a negative effect on Bayern Munich.
The German champions were leading the way in the Bundesliga but, as usual, fans wanted to see a genuine challenge for the Champions League, but things have started to take a slight turn for the worse and pressure on the Spaniard is cranking up.
Having taken one point from their last two Bundesliga matches, Borussia Dortmund are now just five points from catching them while Juventus have every chance of knocking them out of the Champions League after a 2-2 draw in the first leg.
Needless to say, the atmosphere around the Allianz Arena is tense while local media continue to question Guardiola's commitment to the Bavarian club.
He rejected that suggestion in a recent press conference, suggesting he could multi-task "like a woman" between Munich and Manchester.
Asked how he would cope with that, he told reporters at a press conference: "I am like a woman, I can control both situations. I can think of both situations, so it's no problem for me."
Now, however, things are about to reach fever pitch.
A wily photographer spotted the former Barcelona manager in Amsterdam earlier this week and the Mirror claim he was there to meet Manchester City officials to discuss summer transfer plans. Txiki Begiristain, City’s director of football, had arrived at the same building two hours before Guardiola.
The meeting was meant to be held in secret, possibly to avoid another backlash from the Bayern Munich fans, but now he has been outed, it is only likely to damage his reputation with them further.
The meeting was probably held in the Dutch capital because it is a good halfway point between Munich and Manchester, but it may also be because two of Guardiola's main transfer targets are currently plying their trade in the Eredivisie.
PSV Eindhoven's Dutch international left-back Jetro Willems is one player Guardiola wants as he looks to freshen up the City defence. At the moment, Gael Clichy and Alex Kolarov are competing for a place, neither of which inspire Guardiola.
Secondly, Ajax’s brilliant young midfielder Riechedly Bazoer is also being considered as a matter of urgency. The 19-year-old has emerged as one of Europe's top prospects this season, but City will need to move fast if they want him.
It is believed Premier League rivals Chelsea are very much in the process of negotiating a £24million deal with Ajax. While the Blues may be in advanced talks, City are still confident of sealing a deal.
