Head NXT writer moved to Smackdown creative team

NXT has really gained a big reputation and it really isn't difficult to see why.

Somehow it establishes itself above Smackdown despite both being pre- taped events that often has spoilers leaked onto the internet before it airs.

A move up or down?

The story telling on NXT isn't always top notch with a large percentage of their matches simply serving the purpose of introducing new names to the fans.

However with feuds like Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn, Sasha Banks vs Bayley and the upcoming Baron Corbin vs Austin Aries, there can be some captivating story lines on the show.

Now the WWE are looking to refresh their product by making a new addition to the Smackdown creative team in the form of Ryan Ward.

Ward was the head writer of the NXT creative team and will now move to Smackdown to try and increase the popularity of the product.

Every episode of NXT leading up to the Takeover: Dallas special has already been recorded so it will be interesting to see where the developmental brand goes following that event.

The similarities between NXT and Smackdown are quite plentiful, both are often missing some of the top stars, both are pre- taped and both draw sold out crowds.

But with Smackdown still not reaching the viewer of numbers intended, the WWE are constantly trying to increase their ratings on their 'second' show.

From appearances by Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Triple H to the origins of rivalries right there rather than RAW, they have tried a few different ideas.

Best time of the year?

This can be seen as the best time of the year for Smackdown ratings as we are currently on the Road to WrestleMania and there is no NFL Thursday Night Football to compete with.

During the NFL season, Smackdown was often losing to TNF but with Mania right around the corner, fans want to see everything that happens.

Tonight's episode saw Sami Zayn make his debut on the show and he almost made a huge WrestleMania announcement where it not for the actions of Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens.
