Judy Murray has stepped down from her role as Great Britain's Fed Cup captain, the Lawn Tennis Association has confirmed.

Murray was appointed to lead Britain's team in the women's equivalent of the Davis Cup in 2011 but has been unable to achieve her goal of promotion to the World Group.

The 56-year-old's passion is grass-roots tennis and she spends a lot of time going round the country with her Miss-Hits and Tennis on the Road programmes.

Murray has also recently become a grandmother for the first time following the birth of Andy and Kim's daughter Sophia last month.
