What can Sami Zayn achieve on the WWE main roster?

It’s been a long time coming but Sami Zayn is now officially a part of the main roster on a full-time basis, and deservedly so after a decorated career on the independent scene before becoming the face of NXT.

It’s been a little stop-start with Zayn since he was deemed ready for being on the main roster. Newer fans of Zayn assume he made his main roster debut last year when he answered John Cena’s United States Open Challenge, the match he suffered his shoulder injury in.

In fact, he made his main roster debut alongside Neville and Tyler Breeze before the NXT TakeOver: Fatal 4 Way event, teaming with Neville to defeat Breeze and Tyson Kidd. Injuries haven’t helped him, but fans can finally be happy that he’s going to be on the main roster full-time.

He still has a TakeOver match coming up, taking on Shinsuke Nakamura at the TakeOver: Dallas event and it’s safe to say he’s going to be involved with Kevin Owens and the Intercontinental Championship the following night at WrestleMania.

He’s a unique talent who needs to be booked carefully; I still find it strange having followed the career of El Generico for so long and now to see him perform at the level he’s made for. The hype is there; the talent is there but what can he actually achieve on the main roster?

Zayn shifted huge amounts of merchandise on WWEShop.com as well as live events. His popularity isn’t just limited to the US and Canada either, he’s a huge draw in Japan, the UK and many more places and his merchandise is always in high demand.

He’s the sort of character that the children are drawn to, and the fans are fully invested in, he’s somebody who has worked hard for the position he’s in, and I’m sure they will appreciate that. We’ve already seen how much demand the AJ Styles merchandise in and I feel Zayn’s merchandise could not only rival that, but surpass it.

We should expect to see plenty of green shirts scattered around the arenas in the coming months and well into the future.

There’s one thing you’re guaranteed with him; he can put on an incredible match with almost anybody on the entire roster. He’s mastered plenty of techniques which shows how versatile he is and how he can mix it up to suit any opponent.

The brawls with Owens, the technical masterclass with Cesaro and the high-flying battles with Neville have shown a glimpse of what he can accomplish on the main roster. The WWE won’t ask him to tone it down anymore; he’ll be thrown into huge feuds with big-name stars, and the matches will be that much better.

It’s almost a guarantee that we’ll see his name thrown around the match of the year candidates.

You can already see how highly the WWE values Zayn; he’s thrown into a feud with Owens right away which is the correct thing to do, and it’s fantastic storytelling. They put a lot of trust in Owens when he debuted, and he surpassed expectations, and I feel Zayn will do the same.

There’s a slight chance Zayn will go one on one with Owens at WrestleMania for the Intercontinental Championship, but the way the storyline is playing out there could be a multi-man ladder match featuring Neville and The Miz.

If that’s the case, then it’ll be either Owens or Zayn receiving a huge WrestleMania moment on their WrestleMania debuts. Owens has already had huge moments, such as defeating Cena clean on his debut so it won’t be a surprise to see Zayn capture the championship title and get a huge WrestleMania moment under his belt.

If we take it up a notch and look further down the line, you can’t rule out a potential Mr. Money in the Bank run for Zayn. The likes of Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins and The Miz have held the briefcase which has resulted in fantastic things for them.

He has a huge fan base and all the talent in the world to succeed at that level, he’s the ultimate face who will be a breath of fresh air if this opportunity came along. That fan base and that talent is what could help him go from a mid-card talent to the main event every single week.

The biggest question mark is opportunities, they put faith in Bryan and look at how far his career and popularity came.

Zayn can be the new Bryan, they’re both incredible wrestlers, they both have the passion, the heart and the desire to be the best. Another thing they share is that they don’t look like they should be in the company based on the history of who they want as their top guy.

Fans sympathise with that, and they connect with these sort of superstars and I know for a fact Zayn will connect with the WWE Universe on a weekly basis. Not only that, the ‘Ole!’ chant could very well be the new ‘Yes!’ chant we hear around sold-out arenas.

The WWE Universe are a very powerful force, and their voice is often heard by the company, we saw it with Bryan and how plans were changed for him to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Zayn can be just as popular, enough can’t be said about how much talent the man has, and his stock will continue to rise with every incredible performance he puts on. The WWE can’t keep forcing Roman Reigns down our throats; there will come a time where an underdog needs to rise to the occasion, and that underdog will be Zayn. There’s no question about it.

Now this one is a bit of a stretch, but who’s to say he can’t go on to become the best wrestler on the planet? It’s a topic that is widely discussed amongst wrestling fans, and his name is one that always pops up.

There will always be the incredible Japanese stars who are talked about as well as the Zack Sabre’s of the world, Rollins as well as Ricochet. However, with more opportunities and more people watching Zayn has an advantage, he can reach and connect to a wider audience, and there’s nothing stronger than the internet.

His matches can be viewed in an instant; fans talk about how incredible a particular match was and all of a sudden you’ve got somebody considered to be the best in the world.
