Why Zack Ryder has been included in the Intercontinental Championship match at WrestleMania

This week's episode of Monday Night Raw finally saw an end to the rumors surrounding the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 32.

Initially, it was speculated the current champion Kevin Owens would be defending the title in a multi-man match on the show, with some of the participants being The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, and Sami Zayn.

A match similar to that has now been confirmed for The Showcase of The Immortals, as there will be a seven-man ladder match for the title with Owens, Miz, Ziggler and Zayn taking part, as well as Stardust, Sin Cara, and Zack Ryder.

Yes, you've read that correct, Zack Ryder will be having a title match at this year's WrestleMania! Can you believe it!

So the next question you're probably asking is, why on earth is Ryder in a WrestleMania match for the Intercontinental Championship? According to the Wrestling Observer, via Wrestling Inc, it's because of Neville.

They said in a report on their website: "It was noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that Neville's WrestleMania 32 spot was given to Zack Ryder. As noted, WWE Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens will defend against Ryder, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Stardust, Sin Cara and Sami Zayn in a Ladder Match."

The former United States Champion is only covering for the injured Neville, so don't expect this to be the start of some sort of push by the WWE. The British superstar, unfortunately, fractured his ankle while performing a baseball slide in the ring through Chris Jericho's legs during a match on last week's Raw. He isn't expected to be back in action until this summer.

This is Ryder's first pay-per-view match since he competed in the 2015 Royal Rumble, and if you count out the Royal Rumbles, this is his first non-Royal Rumble pay-per-view since Night of Champions in 2012 when he lost the US title to Cesaro.

Long Island Iced-Z will, therefore, replace The Man That Gravity Forgot in this Intercontinental Championship match. This will be his first championship match since he accepted John Cena's Open Challenge for the United States Championship last year in May.

From the way this match is being built, it looks like one of either Sami Zayn or Kevin Owens will climb up the ladder and win the title, with the two then feuding with one another for several months to come, perhaps even up until SummerSlam.

As for Ryder, he'll just be there to help put on a show, but many fans of The Woo Woo Woo Kid will be glad to see the WWE finally giving him some recognition.
