It has also been revealed in court this morning that the former footballer has been stripped of his 12 England caps.
Following the verdict, there have been further revelations over the Johnson case.
No further action
Despite the revelation that he was arrested for possessing bestiality pornography, he will face no further action.
However, it has also been documented that he browsed a website called “Nice Young Teens” and was taking medication used to treat sexually-transmitted infections upon his arrest last year.
Josh Halliday, who works for the Guardian, has been covering the trial throughout and also gave an insight into why Johnson was arrested.
Halliday tweeted: "It can now be reported that Adam Johnson was arrested for possessing extreme pornography - bestiality - on his laptop last year."
The journalist followed that tweet up by stating: "Johnson has since been told by police he will face no further action for possessing bestiality pornography."
Here's the rest of Halliday's tweets from court:
Johnson will now serve six years in prison and has also been ordered to pay £50,000 in prosecution costs.
He has also signed the sex offenders register and will remain on it for the rest of his life, while he also has a restraining order against the victim.
