Leicester City have risen to the Premier League's summit this season to the surprise of just about every human being on planet earth.

With just seven games remaining and five points separating them from second place Tottenham, it's becoming increasingly likely that the Foxes will lift the top-flight crown.

Everyone will remember Jamie Vardy's record-breaking consecutive goalscoring run during the middle of the campaign, but a certain teammate of his has been pivotal to their unlikely climb, too.

Riyad Mahrez has had an outstanding season. The Algerian international, who cost the Foxes £400k from French side Le Havre, has been the most productive player in the top-flight this season with 16 goals and 11 assists in 30 appearances.

On top of being a must have in any fantasy team, the 25-year-old has become hot property around Europe and his name has been linked with some huge sides.

Spanish legend Xavi, now 36, believes Mahrez has what it takes to rub shoulders with the very best.

"He is a very good player," Barcelona legend Xavi told Al Araby Al Jadeed. "He suddenly came to my attention this season, I didn't know about him before, but this season he has blown up.

"He has made a name for himself among the top names in the English league and played exceptionally well. Thanks to what he has done for his club, he can now play for any big club in Europe."

Xavi, who now plays in Qatar for Al Sadd, gave a conclusive answer on whether Mahrez could cut it at the Camp Nou.

"Yeah, why not? He could play for Barcelona in the future.

"He is talented, but that is not in my hands these days!"

Do you think Mahrez could switch the King Power Stadium for Catalonia?
