Ballon d’Or presenter Kate Abdo has revealed Cristiano Ronaldo showed Barcelona's Neymar the ropes throughout the entire event at Zurich earlier this year.

The Real Madrid ace missed out on the top honour to Lionel Messi yet that didn't deter him from being courteous towards his competitors.

Speaking to Football Beyond Borders, as per the Daily Mail, Abdo said: "At the Ballon d’Or which I did in January, we do a little rehearsal with the players before they are going on stage for real.

"He [Ronaldo] came out with Neymar, who is Brazilian and Ronaldo is Portuguese, so they both speak Portuguese, and although Messi and Neymar are team-mates, it was Ronaldo who took him around, showed him where he had to go, made sure everything was translated for him.

"He was very kind and very caring towards Neymar, the way he looked out for him and made sure he knew what he was doing. And that’s a side [of Ronaldo] maybe you don’t expect."

Barca and Real's rivalry has a tendency to escalate on the pitch, yet Abdo's words suggest feelings towards one another are entirely different off it.

In the end, Messi won the Ballon d'Or with 41.33% of the vote, with Ronaldo coming second with 27.76% and Neymar finishing third with 7.86%.

The trio have each been in fine goalscoring form this La Liga campaign, amassing a quite incredible 71 goals between them: Ronaldo (28), Messi (22), Neymar (21).

The latest El Clasico is set to ensue after the the international break on April 2, with Barcelona top of the table on 76 points, ten above rivals Real.
