Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda has revealed he was approached by Manchester United and Arsenal before he opted for the Blues.

The midfielder is currently on loan with Spanish outfit Real Betis having joined Chelsea in 2012 before impressing in their academy side.

Now the 19-year-old has been speaking out about his decision to join Chelsea from Anderlecht, and has confirmed he could well have ended up with one of the west London club's biggest rivals.

“Nobody could know what Mourinho had in mind for me,” he told Het Nieuwsblad. “It was simple: many English clubs wanted to buy me. Manchester United, City, Arsenal, but a loan was the only option for Chelsea.

“Only one thing matters to me - playing! Whether I return [to Chelsea] or not. There was interest from France, Netherlands. My ex-coach Yannick Ferrera, who I speak to a lot, wanted me at Standard, but I did not want to return to Belgium. And in the end I joined Betis.”

Musonda has previously admitted that he was swayed to join Chelsea because the club agreed to take on his two brothers, Tika and Lamisha, as well.

The talented youngster has impressed during his spell with Betis, and has scored once in eight La Liga appearances.

"Musonda is one of the greats young talents in European football, Chelsea have big hopes in his future, and Betis wants to help him to become into a great player," said Betis Sporting Director Eduardo Macia last month. He has speed, self-confidence, is eager to play and can do it in any position behind the striker."

Chelsea will hope that Musonda can be a mainstay in their first team in seasons to come, although that remains some way off.

Do you think Musonda can be a genuine star for Chelsea in the future?
