The WWE has been stricken with injuries over the past year, to a point where not a single champion from WrestleMania 31 will be competing at this weekend's Showcase of The Immortals.
One of those superstars, former Divas Champion Nikki Bella, is currently on the road to recovery from a neck injury, an injury which has kept her sidelined since she failed to regain the title to Charlotte at Hell in a Cell.
She isn't expected to be involved at WrestleMania because she isn't fully recovered yet, but according to NoDQ, there was a plan to have her involved in a non-wrestling role during the five-on-five Divas tag team match of The Total Divas (Brie Bella, Paige, Natalya, Alicia Fox and Eva Marie) vs. B.A.D. & Blonde (Naomi, Tamina, Lana, Emma and Summer Rae).

However, that is no longer the case as the report says: "Ryan Satin of ProWrestlingSheet.com reports that Nikki Bella was originally scheduled to be on this week’s RAW. However, those plans were nixed when Nikki reportedly met with doctors that told her not to make any appearances yet, informing her that just one accidental bump could severely set her recovery back."
"At this point, it’s believed that she will be meeting with doctors again in July. Once a CAT scan is done, it will determine whether the bone in her neck has fused. Even if the news is good, it’s not likely she will be able to return to the ring on a full-time basis."
So not only will she be missing WrestleMania, but her whole career could be in jeopardy as she is unlikely to return to the ring on a full-time basis. With the way the Divas division is changing as well with more top talent coming from the NXT division, it might be difficult for her to insert herself back into the title picture at all.
At this year's WrestleMania, Charlotte will be defending the Divas Championship she won from Nikki Bella against Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch in a Triple Threat match. All three competitors were all still in NXT, this time, a year ago, and with Bayley and Asuka still to come, the division is becoming more technical and competitive. It's tough to see where Nikki fits back in without the title picture becoming cluttered.
Time will only tell how, when and if at all, Nikki Bella will return to the ring. It is well documented on Total Divas that she has considered retirement in the past and that she is already building her future towards that possibility. The question is whether or not she is happy with ending her career in the ring right now, although that decision might not be hers to make.
