Three ways John Cena could be used at WrestleMania

There have been a number of high-profile injuries over the past year which has resulted in huge stars missing the biggest night on the wrestling calendar, WrestleMania.

There’s just over a week remaining until the event kicks off and guys like Randy Orton, Cesaro, and Seth Rollins are being forced to miss the event because of unfortunate injuries, and it’s clear plans had to be changed heading into WrestleMania.

Another top star who was expected to miss the show – as he confirmed in a press conference promoting WrestleMania 33 – is John Cena. Cena, regardless of what fans think of him, is a huge name and is a huge loss to the card, and it’s clear how much the company does need him.

However, there is a chance Cena could still appear at WrestleMania and knowing his attitude; I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets physical rather than a simple appearance.

Cena continues to tease appearances on his official Twitter account, and if he is scheduled to appear, there are several roles he could take part in if the WWE go ahead with it. Here are the roles I believe Cena could participate in if he does mark his return at WrestleMania.

With Cena, you can’t rule anything out. If he’s ready to compete then the logical decision would be to throw him into the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal.

It does make sense because you don’t need a solid storyline heading into this match to win it, we have seen a bit of a story with the Social Outcasts as well as Kane and The Big Show, but it involves a completely different build compared to other matches.

The good thing is, his workload wouldn’t be too heavy as 19 other men would be able to take some of the weight off his shoulders, and it would be the perfect WrestleMania surprise considering the amount of bad news we have had regarding injuries.

We’ve had two strong winners over the past couple of years; Cesaro is seen as the pound-for-pound strongest in the company while The Big Show picked up the win last year. A Cena win would continue the tradition and his name etched on to the trophy would certainly make it more special and relevant than it already is.

One of the likely scenarios is that the WWE have Cena included in a legends segment, this is something we usually get or something similar to that.

Two years ago we had Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Rock open the show at WrestleMania XXX while The Rock was involved again last year in an altercation with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, which also involved Ronda Rousey.

There are some big names scheduled for this year’s WrestleMania too. Shawn Michaels and Mick Foley are scheduled to appear at the event in some capacity while The Rock and Steve Austin are once again set to appear at the event.

Having Cena involved in a segment with any of them would certainly put him in great company, and it’d be a great way to get him a good reaction opposite some of the all-time greats.

The New Day are going up against the League of Nations, and this is the sort of reaction the WWE were hoping for when the stable first debut. The best thing to happen to them was that the fans hated them, and they’ve only got better since.

They’re face now which means they’re going to be playing to the fans for reactions, and they’ll sympathise with the champions because the numbers game is now against them so the WWE may be looking to give the New Day a deserving big WrestleMania and to do that they may receive some additional help.

Cena simply has to be the go-to option if this is the case, he’d get a thunderous reception upon making his return considering how over the New Day are, plus he has history with every single member of the League of Nations.

He had a bitter feud with Sheamus when he arrived on the main roster, dethroning Cena for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the process. He's had a number of feuds with Del Rio, most recently dropping his United States Championship to him.

Nobody will forget the feud with Barrett and Nexus when they arrived on the main roster, and Cena became the first man to defeat Rusev at WrestleMania 31 for the United States Championship, so it’s a perfect setting.

Plus, who doesn’t want to see Cena dancing with the New Day after the match?
