Real Madrid were embarrassed by Wolfsburg in the Champions League this evening, but the Spanish giant’s performance wasn’t as shameful as Marcelo’s playacting.

The Brazilian left-back kicked out at Maximilian Arnold, who reacted by putting his arm against his opponent.

Marcelo, in slow-motion, then went down holding his face while rolling on the floor. He also looked over to the assistant referee before putting his hand to his face. (Scroll down this page to watch the video).

Arnold was booked for his role in the altercation. Marcelo, on the other hand, was not penalised for simulation.

But it was Arnold and his teammates who had the last laugh. A 2-0 win for the German club leaves Real Madrid with a uphill task ahead of next week’s second leg at the Bernabeu.

Wolfsburg secure shock 2-0 win

Ricardo Rodriguez put Wolfsburg ahead from the penalty spot in the 18th minute, and Arnold doubled the hosts’ advantage midway through the first half following poor defending by Zinedine Zidane’s men.

Real Madrid had produced one of their best performances of the season to beat Barcelona in El Clasico last Saturday - but tonight was surely their worst.

On such a big night for the club, Madrid’s star players failed to turn up and deserved to be on the losing team.
