Well, well, well. How the mighty have fallen. Actually, it may be too soon to say that Barcelona have fallen, but they are certainly going through a worrying spell of turbulence and are losing altitude at an alarming rate. But enough of the aeroplane metaphors.

In case you're behind, Barcelona lost their second successive La Liga game on Saturday night, falling 1-0 to mid-table wonders Real Sociedad. It leaves them without a win in their last three league games and puts Atletico Madrid just three points behind.

On current form, they are certainly going to fall behind Diego Simeone's men and could even find themselves finishing third as Real Madrid sit just a further point behind.

As Barcelona's fortress begins to crumble, no one is taking more flack for it than the five-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi. Regularly the inspiration behind their brilliance, Messi is experiencing his worst spell of form in, wait for it, five years.

Yes, the man who can usually be found scoring three, four or five goals against La Liga's whipping boys has actually lost his touch in front of the posts. In fact, he has failed to score in 362 minutes of football for Barcelona, his worst run since 2011.
