A punter has walked away with £53,000 after miraculously forecasting Barcelona might slip up in their game with Real Sociedad.

The gambler had a 22-fold accumulator with Betfair which, if it came in, would have seen him make £1.5 million.

He had already ticked off 15 of the 22 winners and Barcelona were next up. Of his selections, it seems to be one of the more bankable.

The Spanish club bounced back from their defeat in El Clasico by beating Atletico Madrid in the Champions League in midweek and it seemed for all the world that they would get their title hopes back on track on Saturday.

But Barcelona lost 1-0 thanks to Mikel Oyarzabal’s goal.

Fortunately, the punter cashed out before kick-off. When he was two-thirds of the way through, with £1.5m on the line, quite why he took his winnings early is anyone’s guess.

But it’s incredible foresight.

The mother of all Cash Outs

A trader for Betfair said: “This is the mother of all Cash Outs with the customer correctly predicting that Barcelona weren’t going to do the business against Real Sociedad,” per the Telegraph.

Along the way, the man, who is in his late twenties, saw QPR score a 94th-minute winner to keep his bet alive.

He staked £49.50 and came away with £53k. The chap is surely facing requests to predict the lottery numbers now.

Barcelona remain atop La Liga but their lead has been cut to three points from Atletico Madrid. It once appeared that Luis Enrique’s side would cruise to a second successive title but, having failed to win any of their previous three league fixtures, both Madrid clubs smell blood.
