Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg may not be Ant and Dec, they may not even be friends any longer, but Hamilton is definitely now ready to rumble after the first two races of the new season.

Likening this season’s challenge to the infamous “Rumble in the Jungle,” the Briton is suggesting that he is merely ‘rope-a-doping’ Rosberg before rebounding with a flurry of victories of his own.

Well, that is one way of looking at it.

The only thing that is sure is the Hertfordshire-born man needs to up his game with immediate effect as his German rival has now won the last five races, with the back-to-back champion not winning since taking his foot off the pedal after claiming his third wold championship title in Austin, Texas.

Despite the start of the new season he has continued to party like it’s 1999 as he commiserated coming third in Bahrain by staying up all night with singer Jess Glynne and even shared photos of himself smoking a shisha pipe.

The 31-year old has dismissed the idea of a ‘driver coach’ to improve his performance but he is currently performing like a coach driver as consecutive bad starts have turned two pole positions into second and third finishes.

On the other side of the paddock, Rosberg has described his start in Bahrain as “like a rocket launch” so there is no reason for Hamilton to be so sluggish off the line.

Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen in the Ferraris are keeping Mercedes honest but it appears again to be a straight battle between the two Mercedes drivers.

Now that the new ‘X-factor’ qualifying format looks like it will be parked in the garage of Bernie Ecclestone’s bad ideas, the stage is now set for Formula 1’s own Ant and Dec to entertain us.

Just don’t expect any harmony.
