Manchester United fans are furious with Louis van Gaal for replacing Juan Mata with Marouane Fellaini ahead of tonight's FA Cup quarter-final showdown against West Ham United.

It's safe to say, as you can see below, that Red Devils supporters have hit out at the Dutchman on social media.

Fellaini has been the subject of criticism throughout the course of the campaign and has struggled to maintain a place in the team in recent weeks.

However, Van Gaal, who is under increasing pressure at the Theatre of Dreams, has handed the ex-Everton man another shot at redemption.

In truth, it's easy to see why the United boss has brought Fellaini into the team - his strength is in the air shouldn't be underestimated when coming up against Andy Carroll - but that hasn't stopped fans ranting on social media.

Here are the best tweets:

After United succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham in their last outing, Van Gaal has also dropped France international Morgan Schneiderlin from his starting XI.

Ander Herrera, who in contrast to Fellaini is a fans' favourite, has been handed a starting role in what looks set to be a defining game for Van Gaal.

Herrera has his say

With the Red Devils in danger of missing out on a place in the top four of the Premier League, United can't afford to drop out of the FA Cup this evening. Spanish midfielder Herrera is certainly aware of the significance of the tie.

"The FA Cup is a big competition. It's very emotional," the 26-year-old Spaniard said, as per Sky Sports.

"In the Premier League you show your balance but in the cup you show your spirit and your desire to win.

"If we beat West Ham we'll have the chance to play at Wembley, which is a fantastic stadium.

"I have a lot of things in mind about being there and we have a big chance to be there - but of course West Ham away is not easy."
