Luka Modric played against Wolfsburg

Despite the tragic news, Luka Modric played against Wolfsburg in Real Madrid’s crunch Champions League quarter-final second leg on Tuesday night.

The Croatia international played for 92 minutes before being substituted off for Raphael Varane by Zinedine Zidane.

Modric and co. now turn their attention back to La Liga. Victory over Getafe on Saturday afternoon could leave them even closer to league-leaders Barcelona, whose form has taken an unexpected dip in recent weeks.

Real Madrid currently trail their fierce rivals by four points with six matches and 18 points up for grabs.

Luka Modric has denied the woman in question is his cousin.

“In regards to the news stories, I want to clarify that the person who died in El Salvador does not have any family relationship with me,” the former Tottenham star tweeted on Thursday evening.
